GENERAL OPHTHALMOLOGY

GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma results in irreversible damage to the optic nerve of the eye that can result in blindness. It is therefore recommended that patients have regular eye examinations. Effective treatments are now available including topical medications, laser (SLT) and  glaucoma surgery.

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a highly effective laser pressure that reduces intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma patients. It improves the drainage of the eye and thereby reduces IOP. It is a convenient, painless and repeatable procedure that usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.

PTERYGIUM

A pterygium is a triangular growth that covers the cornea (the clear part of the eye). It is usually related to eye dryness and exposure to sunlight. To prevent the growth of a pterygium, wrap around sunglasses should be worn outdoors with regular lubrication. Surgery may be indicated for individuals with a growing pterygium or who experience discomfort or irritation.
